"Our Friend"

This poem is for Our Friend, Paul Eugene Ward...
Though no longer with us, he's home with the Lord!

Our Friend was my teacher, and he knew how to inspire...
A role-model and mentor, whom I respect and admire!

He took the time to listen, and truely understand...
He always had a kind word, ready to lend a hand!

Today, I honor Our Friend, and let me make this clear...
This man was remarkable, genuine and sincere!

We'll miss his sense of humor, and the wisdom that he shared...
But recall the life-lessons, and remember how he cared!

We'll miss the sharp wit, and the infectious grin...
But won't soon forget, the Love for Our Friend!

Ya see, Our Friend was so much more, then what's in this poem...
I find comfort dear Lord, that he's finally home!

Respectfully,

" Working The Count "

"Working The Count", can make you a better hitter....
So listen up closely, and you won't be called  a quitter!

You've got to see more pitches, so make 'em throw you a strike...
He's gotta throw you three, so pick-out the one you like!

You'll get deeper into the count, so just be patient and wait...
As the number of pitches mount, they just might make a mistake!

You'll need to shorten your stride, and don't swing from the heels...
Maybe choke-up a finger, be ready to use your wheels!

Try to protect the plate, You've seen what he's got...
Now put the ball in play, an easy out you're not!

It makes their pitcher work, and tires out their arm...
It wakes-up their bullpen, and sorta sounds the alarm!

Simply taking more pitches, always works the best...
And by "Working The Count", your pitcher gets to rest!

R. A

This poem is about Rheumatoid Arthritis, or "R.A" if you please.....
It's an autoimmune disorder, a cronic progressive disease!

Nobody really knows the cause, and there is no cure.....
But the pain can be crippling, we know that for sure!

It effects your muscles and joints, there's inflammation and swelling....
Sometimes you'll wanna cry, or sometimes feel like yelling!

The worst is the dreaded "flare-up", which brings intense pain....
Sometimes it will scare ya, and you'll need to use a cane!

It also effects your vital organs, like your liver or your heart....
And to tell you the truth, that's the scariest part!

You'll get tired faster, and notice strength and flexibility loss....
"meds" sometimes will help, but they also come with a cost!

Telling others can be frustrating, they'll think you're rather fickle....
They should see it's disabling, when you can't open a jar of pickles!

People really mean well, but they simply can't relate...
To the sharp constant pain, that is so hard to escape!

There's no doubt that R.A, can put you out of commission....
You'll need to take care of yourself, pay attention to your nutrition!

We might not know, from where the pain is stemming....
You'll still need to exercise, a good choice would be swimming!

Arthritis happens to the young and old, it occurs everyday.....
And if you should meet "uncle Artie", Let's hope it's not R.A !
