FW: " Got Goals "

... As the new school year begins, it's a great time to talk about setting goals... but what are goals?  Read on... Coach A

Everyone has goals, whether they know it or not…

It's an "area to be reached", just in case you forgot!

It gives life a purpose, providing direction and aim…

Something to strive for, on your journey towards fame!

Your goals should be realistic, yet specific as you can…

Cuz a dream is just a goal, but it includes a plan!

Write your goals down, it should be something measurable…

And with a little hardwork, your dreams become achievable!

So try to keep it simple, and make it something you enjoy…

It's all part of growing-up, for every girl and boy!

FW: " Volleyball Forearm Bump-pass "

A basic skill in volleyball is the "Forearm Bump-pass"…

It's needed to be successful, just like a car needs gas!

You don't have to be strong, and there's no need to jump…

And most volleyball players refer to it as the "Bump"!

First your feet are shoulder width; you assume an athletic stance…

Bending your knees slightly, will create a better chance!

Your weight is on the balls of your feet; bend forward at the hips…

It's all about positioning, so keep on reading these tips!

Arms relaxed and hanging down, body ready to react…

Get yourself in front of the ball; it doesn't have to be exact!

Don't interlock your fingers, as you bring your hands together…

Keep your elbows straight, and soon you'll feel the leather!

You'll create a nice "platform", when your thumbs point down…

Now shrug your shoulders, good position you have found!

The ball should hit your forearms, 'tween your elbows and wrists…

You'll become better faster, if you don't use your hands or fists!

Face the direction you're passing, and don't swing your arms…

It's not an elephant trunk, and it actually causes more harm!

Now, let the ball come to you, don't reach up to get it…

Your platform creates the angles; just let the ball hit it!

The only thing left is practice; it'll help you get over the hump…

The more you do, the better you get…and soon you'll master the bump!

FW: " The Volleyball Serve "

The best part of volleyball isn't the bump, set or spike…

It's The Volleyball Serve", which I'm sure you're gonna like!

Now there's many different ways, to serve it over the net…

Coach will explain one way, and you'll see it's no sweat!

First thing you gotta do, is always announce the score…

And since that's always changing, it's best not to ignore!

Now hold the ball about waist high, like it's on a dish…

Place it across your body, your other hand makes a fist!

Next step with your opposite foot, and swing your arm back…

Knuckles pointing down, you are ready to attack!

Now swing your arm forward, keeping your eyes on the ball…

We all could use some practice, like hitting against a wall!

The secret is not to peek, or looking-up too soon…

You'll hit the ball more solid, as you follow-thru to the moon!

Quickly you'll see improvement, even making the ball curve…

And you'll start teaching others, about "The Volleyball serve"!

FW: " Accept The Challenge "

It is a really big challenge, to run 100 miles....
but if you "accept the challenge", it will bring you smiles!

What exactly is a challenge?  Some of you might ask....
it's an interesting problem, or a stimulating task!

It's an invitation to compete, a summons to a duel....
it's an opprortunity to learn, and that's why we're in school!

A challenge is just an obstacle, but a  chance for you to grow....
when you "accept the challenge", it helps accomplish your goals!

For some it might be reading, for others it could be math....
when you "accept the challenge", you've chosen the right path!

It's how we grow-up, as we learn to problem-solve....
If you "accept the challenge", you're choosing to get involved!

At first you may be nervous, but avoidance would be wrong...
you made the right decision, you're getting smart and strong!

FW: " Memorizing your combo "

"Memorizing your combo, can be easy to do...
If you listen carefully, Coach will give you a clue!

First thing to do, is to say it out loud...
but not too noisey, and hopefully not in a crowd!

Now say it over and over, you'll need to repeat it...
The more you do it, the easier to complete it!

You don't want others to see, so kinda hide it...
Maybe get some paper, & go ahead and write it!

If you have a problem, you might have to wing it...
So the best thing to do, is go ahead and sing it!

Take it from Coach, cuz I've done it a time or two...
"Memorizing your combo", is something you CAN do!

FW: " A Tribute To Sue Avalos "

This poem is a tribute, to our dear friend Sue...
The thought of her retiring, leaves me feeling blue!

Some things need to be said, before it's time to go...
When it comes to this school, you're the heart and soul!

You've been here from the beginning, I speak for more than a few...
You've held things together, it's like you've been the glue!

You've had a profound affect, on many many lives...
You deserve our gratitude, and a lot of high-fives!

You're more than a secretary, you're  a manager and a nurse...
In everything you have done, the child has always come first!

You're certainly multi-talented, a secretary-extroidinaire
And we've always had the comfort, of knowing you'd be there!

Most of what you do, is sorta behind the scenes...
You're very good at what you do, like fixing the copy-machine!

We will miss your daily smile, you're a friend who's really sweet...
And you'll never have to ask again, for folks to sign the time-sheet!

Sue, Thank you for your dedication, and for wearing so many hats...
We appreciate your contributions, and for giving us Matt!

So enjoy your new life, and in all that you do...
But always remember, you'll always be  our Sue!

FW: " Simple Acts of Caring "

This poem is a tribute to Dottie Reichard...
She's highly admired, and always works hard!

Dottie is a Health Educator, she's a nurse and a friend...
But now she's set to retire, a new phase about to begin!

Dottie has a wealth of knowledge, and the respect of her peers...
Yet now she's calling it quits, after working over 25 years!

She has started many programs, there are too many to list...
But now it's time for traveling, so know that you'll be missed!

Dottie has always been involved, her contributions are many...
She's a person of high character, and that should tell you plenty!

We appreciate her values, and her willingness to take a stance...
We will miss her wisdom, and her ability to obtain grants!  =-)

She knows it's more than test scores, that makes a child whole...
It's about staying healthy, and that's a worthy goal!

So Dottie, Thank you for your service, and your "Simple Acts of Caring"...
Please know you've made a difference, because of your love and sharing!

Best Wishes,

Coach A
